Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Response

The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances like these.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
