Britain Prepared to Use Frozen Russia's Assets to Fund the Ukrainian War Effort
The UK is prepared to move forward with using the entire amount of frozen Russian assets to bolster the Ukrainian military campaign, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this joint measure would escalate tension on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to come to the table.
They further noted that the initiative would be implemented in tight collaboration with the United States.
United Kingdom penalties have blocked more than £25bn of Russian assets since Russia began its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, previously, resources allocated to Ukraine using Russian assets had only been sourced from gains and dividends earned on them.
Sir Keir assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their desire to advance efforts toward employing the total worth of the seized Russia's state assets to halt hostilities.
He noted that further measures over the next period would increase the strain on Moscow.
This declaration follows European leaders met in the Danish capital previously to consider employing seized Russia's holdings for a 140-billion-euro loan to the Ukrainian nation.
