Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
