Six Individuals Detained After €12 Million Armed Raid on Gold Refining Lab in France

A group of six individuals using military-grade weapons detonated charges to break into a precious metals processing plant located in Lyon, France, resulting in minor injuries to five staff members during what is being called the most recent prominent daylight theft to occur in the country.

The audacious robbery occurred on Thursday afternoon, with police forces quickly arresting the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth €12 million (£10.5 million), as stated by authorities.

Five workers of the gold refining company sustained minor injuries as a result of the detonation, and three employees were taken to a medical facility for examination, according to regional authorities. A total of twenty-eight staff were inside the facility when the perpetrators raided.

Those arrested, considered career criminals, were taken into custody soon afterwards in the adjacent municipality of Vénissieux, France, according to investigative sources.

A female participant who took part in the raid was also apprehended, according to law enforcement.

“Six suspects who utilized explosives in an attack on a precious metals company in the Lyon area were caught in the act,” the nation's interior minister stated online, lauding police for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were also confiscated.

The heist took place as authorities on that Thursday apprehended five additional individuals, including a primary suspect, in relation to the recent audacious Louvre museum robbery.

Numerous detectives have been searching for four perpetrators who employed a truck equipped with a moving lift and cutting tools to access a gallery on the first floor at the museum on 19 October, fleeing with ornaments assessed at around €88M.

In a different significant robbery, robbers the previous month forced their way into the Natural History Museum in Paris, taking gold specimens estimated at exceeding $1M. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona, Spain in relation to the burglary, according to legal authorities.
