Zelenskyy commented, "It's evident that Russia is rushing to resume dialogue immediately after it hears about Tomahawks." This statement referred to earlier musings about supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine.

Diplomatic Moves and International Reactions

A former American diplomat, Dan Fried, observed, "The Russian leader is attempting to derail the momentum toward increased pressure on the Kremlin." He added, "We'll see tomorrow, but the chances of achieving a truce by pushing Russia to get serious appear to have diminished."

The development followed the US president had recently been strengthening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Russian government characterized as "highly open and trustful."

European Fuel Sanctions and Economic Impact

EU authorities have set a mandate for energy importers into the EU to prove their products are not made from Russian crude, according to a official guideline published on Thursday. This measure is included in the EU's upcoming prohibition on purchases of fuels made from Russian petroleum, which is included in its latest sanctions package against Russia over its war in the region.

Market experts observed that trading patterns appeared to be considering the possible end of Indian purchases of Russian crude. Some oil processors in India are getting ready to cut purchases from Russia, with projections of a gradual decrease, as reported by sources knowledgeable about the situation.

"This is a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a major customer of Russian oil," said Tony Sycamore, noting that oil prices were steady on the trading day.

Security Situation and Energy Strikes

A large-scale Moscow's drone and rocket attack targeted energy infrastructure in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, causing disruptions in eight regions. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched hundreds of unmanned vehicles and many of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.

"This autumn, the Russian forces use every single day to strike at our energy infrastructure," declared Ukraine's president, adding that attacks affected the regions of northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, central Ukraine, Sumy and Vinnytsia.

She revealed a "roadmap" to get ready for possible security challenges by the end of the decade, including a new defensive network to be completely functional by the 2027 deadline.

The proposed system, called the "EU defensive program," is projected to start operations in its first phase by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the following year. Brussels aims to secure the support of EU leaders at a meeting next week.
